Only after no less than 30 years, 143(*) matches and 19 editions of the British Home Championship (link:

) , there is an official (full-A’) match between NATIONAL TEAMS played elsewhere than Britain.

South Americans are the first (20.07.1902, Uruguay-Argentina 0-6, Montevideo), with Central Europeans following after less than 3 months.

In recent terms, this isn’t an “international” match because:
* Austria and Hungary back then, are still part of the same “nation” (Austro-Hungarian monarchy)
* squads are actually cities selections (Wien, Budapest).

Several decades later, the FAs of Austria and Hungary regarded it as their first-ever official match, considering that both “nations” fielded their best players anyway.
